Welcome! The Franz Boas Papers: Documentary Edition reassesses and recontextualizes the papers of preeminent anthropologist Franz Boas. His ideas about race, language, culture and ethnography were pivotal in the development of American anthropology; however, his Canadian fieldwork has largely been ignored by scholars. The documentary editions provide a comprehensive and essential resource for Boas research across a range of disciplines, making the original writings of a founding figure of North American anthropology more accessible than ever before.
We're grateful for a SSHRC Partnership grant as well as ongoing support from our host institution, the University of Western Ontario.
